Books and progress
Add a book manually
Open Library, choose Add to Library, enter the title, author and total pages, then review the details before saving.
Scan an ISBN barcode
Choose the barcode option while adding a book and allow camera access. Hold the barcode clearly inside the scanner. If no match appears, enter the ISBN or book details manually.
Correct details or choose a cover
Edit the saved book to correct its title, author, ISBN or page total. When Open Library returns alternatives, confirm the correct match or choose a different cover before saving.
Update pages and finish a book
Open a book and use quick progress controls or exact page entry. Reaching the final page can mark the book complete and offer an optional reflection.
Goals, loans and reflections
Reading goals
Set or adjust the annual goal from Goals. The goal is intentionally flexible. Optional reminders can be managed in PageKeep Settings.
Borrowed and loaned books
For a library book, add the library name and return date and optionally enable a reminder. To lend one of your books, open its details and choose Loan This Book. PageKeep keeps returned outbound loans in Loan History so the same book can be loaned again later.
Notes and quotes
Open a book to add private notes and quotes. They stay with the local library and are included in PageKeep backups.
Ratings and reviews
Add a private 1–5 star rating and review during completion reflection or from the book’s details.
Backups and restoring data
Export or import manually
Open Settings → Your Data to export a PageKeep JSON backup or import a previously exported PageKeep backup. Review import warnings carefully; importing changes the local library.
Configure automatic Files backup
In Settings → Your Data, choose a folder through Apple’s Files picker. PageKeep writes PageKeep-Automatic-Backup.json after successful library changes. The folder can be in iCloud Drive or another installed Files provider.
Restore from backup
Use Import in Settings → Your Data, select a valid PageKeep backup, review the confirmation, and complete the import. Keep the original backup until you have checked the restored library. If folder access was revoked, select the automatic-backup folder again.
Places, permissions and network troubleshooting
Nearby bookstores and libraries
Open Loans and choose Places. Tap Near Me to request When In Use location access, or enter a city, town or postal code to search without location permission. You can save a place locally, add a personal note, or open directions in Apple Maps. If location is denied or unavailable, manual search remains available.
Notifications
If reminders do not appear, check Settings → Notifications → PageKeep in iOS and confirm notifications are allowed. Then verify the loan or reading reminder inside PageKeep.
Camera
If scanning is unavailable, check Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and allow PageKeep. You can always enter an ISBN manually.
Open Library results
Book search, covers, page information, aggregate ratings and related suggestions depend on Open Library and an internet connection. Results may be incomplete, delayed or different between editions. Edit the book manually or try another ISBN when needed.
Sharing and deleting data
Share a book or bookshelf
Use the share button on an eligible book or the finished bookshelf. PageKeep opens Apple’s share sheet; you choose the destination and can cancel before sending.
Delete PageKeep data
Delete individual books from the library, or use the strongly confirmed Clear Entire Library option in Settings. Manage or remove backup files separately through Apple’s Files app or the selected provider.
Protect private reading information
Support responses should never require you to send private notes, quotes, reading history or an entire PageKeep backup. Send only what you knowingly choose to share for troubleshooting, and remove unrelated personal information first.
